Field List
Lists the fields from the first record of the file specified from the "Open" button. If a custom filter is selected as the input format, then the field names specified in the filter are listed (see the Custom Filter chapter). Fields selected from this list are the fields that will be processed and written to the file specified from the "Save As…" button.
Open button
Reads in a data file. The fields from the first record of this file are displayed in the field list.
Save As… button
Creates a new file that will receive the processed data. This button changes to "Append To…" when the selection "Append To Data File" is checked in the Options menu.
Append To button
Opens a file that will receive the processed data. The data are appended to any existing data in the file. This button changes back to “Save As…” when the selection “Append To Data File” is not checked in the Options menu.
Input Format pop-up menu
Lists the available input format types. Select from this menu the name of the program that created the data file that is to be read in and processed by TransData, or select one of the other generic formats. Normally the most common format used is tab delimited. If a filter has been created or read in, it will also be listed as an input format choice.
Fixed length records: You must first create a Custom Filter for the records. Once the Custom Record is read in (select Open Custom Filter from the File command), it will show up in this pop-up menu. See the chapter on Custom Filters.
Output Format pop-up menu
Lists the available output format types. Select from this menu the name of the program that will use the processed data, or select one of the other generic formats. Normally the most common format used is tab delimited.
Translate
Processes the data. TransData‚Ñ¢ reads the input file, extracts from each record the fields selected from the field list, processes them based on any process options selected, and writes the resulting data to the output file.
Find
Searches from the beginning of the field list for a match between a field name and the search string. The search string is case independent, and can be a substring of the field name. If a match is found, the field is selected.
Find Again
Continues the search from the last “Find” match.
Select All
Selects all the fields in the field list.
Select None
Un-selects all the fields in the field list.
Quit
Quits TransData‚Ñ¢.

Displays the About window. Same as select About TransData from the Apple menu.
